I'd like to have an awakened wolf or dire wolf as a character, or perhaps an enemy for a campaign I'd like to run.
I'd like to maximize his ability to attack with his bite attacks. I'll play with a slightly altered variant of the rules so that primary attacks always scale with BAB, so assume that he can bite a number of times a character with the same BAB would be able to attack with a weapon.
Also assume that he has at least 10 INT, after being awakened.
Could you perhaps provide a core-only progression for him up to an ECL of 20, and perhaps give me a rough guess as to his LA and CR?
Feats and the like are suggested.
Edit: Assume 28 point buy.

I'd go Monk. Wisdom and Dex to AC plus the monks innate AC bonus. Toss on the improved damage and extra speed. Great for anything that can't wield normal weapons or wear normal armor.
Wolf gets 2 HD to begin with, +2 STR, +4 DEX, +4 CON, +2 Natural Armor, Lowlight vision, Scent, Weapon Focus(Bite), and the (EX) trip. Down side is no hands. I'd probably make it a +2 Level Adjustment because of its melee ability and you'd have to take to HD worth of "Wolf". Toss in its move of 50.
Straight Monk from Lvl 1-16 is what you'd get by the time you hit 20th. I'd go for a grappling monster. Run in, trip them, grapple and maul.
Dire wolf has +14 Str, +4 Dex (treat as +6 since its LARGE), +6 Con (Treat as +2 since its LARGE), +3 natural armor and 6 HD. I'd have to say at least a level adjustment of +4, maybe as much as +6. Toss in 6 natural HD and you'd not get many levels of Monk out of it.
